Ames was a wood sculpturer who did the heads, busts and full lifesize wood carvings of relatives, friends and public figures. 11 pieces of his work are known to exist and are displayed in various Folk art museums and galleries. Articles and photographs of his works have appeared in Folk Art Magazine, Antiques Magazine and exhibitions of his work have been shown at Boulder History Museum in Colorado in 2005 and 2008 will see an exhibition of his works at the Folk Art Museum in NY City.
